    ?? Portable Carpet Cleaners ??

What are the features you expect from a portable carpet cleaner?

Are there features you would like to see on future portable carpet extractors that currently not offered?

The options I like on portables are:
    Easy access to components
    High pressure
    High cfm

The options I would like to see in the future is:
    Built in circuit finder
    More cooling of motor/pump features
    Higher cfm
Auto defoamer attachment (pulls defoamer into waste tank)

It just so happens I've been doing quite a bit of reading on portables here lately. Every one of the things you mentioned are available in some portables and most are available in a number of portables. Check out this video on the 1003 DX from Mytee. The guy doing the video is a little nutty, but he gets the point across at least. I get a chuckle or two out of him. Mytee does make an auto defoamer attachment for their machines. I'm just using this machine as an example. There are other good ones on the market than have most or all of the same features. I also like auto fill and auto dump. That really helps if you are on a big job, but not too many machines have those features.

    I would like to see:
    lift and cfm
    optional 3rd cord for heating
    pump 450 psi is fine
capacity 12 and 12 at least
    optional pre heating
vacuum exhaust in the back of the machine, not in the bottom or side
    circuit braker finder
    water temp gauge
    2 inches plumbing
    nice wheels
    anchors for better hold

I prefer pay more a portable with this specifications than buying a weak tm with 13 or 15 hp

If your gonna have auto fill and APO (absolutely necessary IMO), then you need a chem metering system too.

Also, the porty needs to be able to operate in a modular fashion depending on power available, for instance, if I end up with only a single circuit, I should still be able to operate at least one vac and the pump to limp through a job.

You are right about the chemical metering system. I've only seen a few machines with auto fill and I think they all have a metering system that is non-electric. I still have my old Castex Magnum dual vac automatic that has auto fill, auto dump, and a chemical metering system. It is a 2 cord system w/o a heater, but has the larger 7.2 vacuum motors. The metering system on it worked similar to my truck mount with a dwyer meter and the chemical was last step injected. It also had an automatic defoamer which I found to be pretty useless as it was very hard to regulate the amount of defoamer it would draw in so I found it best to defoam the old fashioned way.

Yes, the metering systems are non-electric so should always work as long as your pump works.

I have found that the Mytee 1005 comes the closest to what you guys are looking for in a high performance portable machine at a decent price point. (about $1800 at rotovac). What it does not have you can add at a small extra cost. For a price of under $3000 you will have your Dream machine. 3 - 3 stage vacs with 300 cfm, APO and fill. And a Mytee Hot with 2000 watt heating ability.

    Hi ken.
I did return the wand from westpak, too bad it was a nice wand, but the wand wasn't straight.
I would like to buy the 12 cmp wand, but i think the .04 jets are too much for my portable, the pump from my portable can handle a total less than 4. maybe .15 for each jet will work better.
also how long will take the delivery, I need to do a big job next saturday.

    Ken,
How do you get 3-3 stage vacs with 300 cfm? Also I got the Mytee 1003 DX which is the same as the 1005 but has a heater. I got it from Rotovac for $1688 so doesn't that seem high? Let me know, thanks

The 300 cfm figure is derived from adding up the 105 cfm each motor produces at maximum cfm when placed in parallel to each other. That is a maximum however and you wont get that much when actually cleaning with a wand attached working on the carpet. It is still a good basis of comparing machine potential however.

The 1003 could be used as well, if you all ready had it, but you would have to take out the heater to have the room for the 3rd vac motor. You could not run the heater anyway because all energy is needed to power the 3 vac motors and pump. That is why I said to go with a 1005 machine if you are buying one.

The price I quoted was a recent one i got a few weeks ago from Rotovac, so I believe it is still current as the best pricing available on this machine. I know that if you find a lower price anywhere else, Rotobrush will beat it.

They were higher but matched steam-brites price. Not beat it. But they did throw in the Tile and Grout Cleaning head.

Well chad, good to hear. But throwing in something for FREE is the same as lowering the price. If you deduct the value off the FREBIE off the cash price paid, you reach the real value of the purchase.
