Changing the oil frequently is a good start!
What steps have you done to modify or improve your truck mounts?![]()
Changing the oil frequently is a good start!
Well, it seems to me that, there are 3 things that a guy would want to improve:
1: Vacuum
2: Heat
3: PSI of water
Well, I can go to 250 deg. / So don't really want anymore Heat.
PSI, would like more, can only get 1000 psi
But now there is VACUUM!
I did something about that!
By inventing "Quick Change Sliders" I improved my vacuum, by making different styles of attachments to the end of my Wand, to match the different styles of carpet i was cleaning!
And giving me from 30% to over 60% better water & soil removal.
And i was so happy with the results, I made them to sell to other professional cleaners.
So, that's what I have done.
Cheers, AL
I think the man was asking people who don't, ahem, sell things.
My 98 CDS 4.7 started with anemic vacuum and piss-poor heat (180-190. I added the following and it made a HUGE difference.
-Bayco 15" would keep lift numbers around 13 while cleaning (try that with free flow)
-2.5 inch hose. Spare me Nellos, this really does work, and its not that hard to handle if you use it on more than two jobs.
-Changed my Ti wand to 12 flow, didn't raise heat numbers, but got more of it to the fibers.
All these mods helped tremendously, I haven't done any mods to my 09 CDS yet, but I plan on doing the same. BTW, don't waste money on the wye to 2.5 conversion, just adapt your waste tank, the wyes collect water sumpin awful.
Adkins, What is wye?
Thanks
the Y connector from Wanders,on my machine I ran 2" shorty hoses from both vac ports into a y connector, with a 2.5 outlet on the other side. in my case water just collected in the bottom hose. I made sure they were exactly the same length, but there must have been some difference in air restriction. On my new machine I will just install a 2.5 elbow on the waste tank, in place of one of my 2". I run CDS' btw.
I am hoping to find some of you in this forum that can tell me what I should do to improve the vacuum on my old Hydramaster 4.2 CDS unit. It has poor vacuum and 5000 hours of use. Can I help this unit any or is it possibly just worn out? I am new at the truckmount carpet cleaning but have gained a lot of knowledge in a short period of time but I have only been in carpet cleaning about a year now. I am a novice by many cleaners standards I imagine. Got to start somewhere. I would like to know what I can do with this unit. It does seem to run fairly well. Hot water but poor vacuum. Thanks to you for any help you can give me about this
The only mod I've done so far is to double the size of jets on the 2 jet wand that came with my unit from two 11002s to two 11004s. I may push it up to two 11006s and see how that works. It made a surprisingly significant improvement especially in how easy I can clean. Water seems hotter at the wand too, but I have no way to tell for sure. It did not increase drying times one bit. Other than that I just put an extra large filter in my recovery tank because the one that came with the machine was way too small. That also has made a lot of difference because the filter does not fill up and block vacuum near as easily.
I dug a hose bag and a sock out of my hose.
I let another hose sit idly on the muffler while I cleaned. Made the van smell such that I no longer need to wash out the recovery tank.
I took the 50' 1.5" 'whip' the guy b4 me had on the reel and replaced it with 10'.
do these count?

Hey Wiz I noticed that when I flow more water I maintain more heat.
Also for mod I crank down my waste tanks vac break a bit which gives me more vac and loads the blower a bit more in turn loading the engine in turn giving me more heat from exhaust exchanger.
With my little dagger I used to have cranking down the vac break on the tank made the difference between steam or no steam at the wand.
SuzukRider,
Could you please explain the different points you made in that message you left there. I am new to this forum and to truckmounts and need all the understanding I can get. You said something about trimming down or tightening down the vacuum valve something like that, I don't have your message in front of me. I understand how putting a little more load on the blower could help get more heat. My hydromaster CDS has a screw thing on the backside with a spring, would that be what you were talking about? Please post your reply. Appreciate it. GaryN
it dont work
Just for the record I dont think people should play with their vacuum breaks. If I had one of Nicks designs with the gate valve free flow. Which, by the way is an excellant design. I would remove the knob so my employees dont play with it.
Gary, alex is basically saying hes dumping more fuel under load which is causing more heat.
Modified dump tank to accept 3"hose and filter. Run 2.5" hose to wand. Added hole glides ,stainless steel fitting and larger tips on a 2" wand. Currently working on a 2.5" wand. Oh, and swivel cool cuffs.
Back when I cleaned, I increased the RPM's on my blowers via going to a larger drive pulley on the motor. Dramatic increase in vacuum.
I set my heaters to run so that the ATW temperature was 230 to 240. That made a huge difference as well.
