Even I pay in huge amount for the 2 Full color ads. I pay almost 7000.00. I think that's really huge amount for the yellow ads. These yellow ads people are able to make good money.
WOW. you've got to be joking, that's 96 K a year. Are you that big of a company?
We paid $240 for a 1 inch box in 2 categories, housecleaning and Carpet&Rug Cleaners. No pictures only words and it hasn't gotten any work in the past 3 months. We will probably never do it again if it keeps up for the remaining 9 months. There are so many phone books it's just not worth it when there's other/better means of advertising. Not to mention the hundreds of other cleaners in it.
I think we have six yellow page type books in our area. I NEVER USE THEM ... so your 8k would be wasted on me.
I pay nothing for yellow pages now. Check the date of this thread. I rode the yellow pages for years and then pulled out Oct '08 completely. It was a good and profitable run for 20 some years!
Free, if you're purchasing a line ad. But the cost of display ads varies from city to city. In Manhattan, New York, a small, one-inch space listing would cost you about $2,500, and you could pay as much as $92,000 for a full-page display ad. But that same one-inch space listing in Manhattan, Kansas, would cost just $252, and a full-page display ad would be about $11,200.
I'll let everyone know at the end of the month, i'm doingi the pay per call idea, i'm pretty sure it's going to hurt in the long run but, we'll see soon.
Got 1 job off it so far for the month of Nov.
We have two local yellowbooks, I pay $150.00 for each ad.
I've paid over 200K in total through out the years for yellow page ads.
I Now pay 50 bucks per month for an in column listing.
The Yellow pages used to have a monopoly on local advertising. Not anymore.
The results from the Yellow Pages often times are not worth the investment. Most people don't even use the Yellow pages any more.
Frankly, there are much better ways to advertise.
It is much easier for the client the find more information, get a quote and reserve an appointment on the web while they are at work or at home.
I Dropped most of my yellow page advertising a few years back when I discovered a way to advertise that cost me zero. Yet it pulls in more work and better customers than my former 1/2 page YP ad.
It's done by building relationships. Which is what marketing should really be all about and we all should be doing.
Even, My internet advertising cost me only 14 bucks a month yet it pulls in at least 4 jobs per week.
Why would anyone want to pay exorbitant rates to advertise along with their competitionin the YPs?
It's only because they haven't found a better way.
In this age of electronic communication the Yellow Pages are becoming a dinosour.

i put a half page ad in for 800 for the year..then they put me in 2 other books for free so im in 3 books for 800 bucks
man im glad i never listen to everyone that said dont use the yp..
im staying busy just with that.
yp

Its not that YP are that bad .. it that they are not that good when taking price into account. If they cut their prices by 70 or 80% the ROI would be a lot more appropriate.
$800 for three books isn't bad at all (if it works) now imagine $800 a month ... see the difference.
Rob,
have you replaced your YP business with Internet business?
I was paying $75 per month for a 1 inch ad. After zero calls in 6 months (from the ad), I gave up my YP ad.
Lotta things to consider with YP ...
1. How many books are in your area? More books, more dilution of your caller views.
2. Do you offer Water Damage restoration? I still think YP may be a viable option for W/D.
3. What is your market base. the higher end residential market virtually never cracks a phone directory. Why should they? There is an internet connection and maybe computer in virtually every room.

$96k a year will pay for a lot of postcards! I'll bet that even with TV that's a significantly reduced ad budget.
ran double truck adds for 3-4 years, paid up to $5k a month , then got tired of paying more for less, I run one van and did big buisness, but got out like rob 3 years ago,
