It's much easier if they seek you out from someone they already have a relationship with.

    Matt,

Just because everyone markets a certain way does NOT mean that it is effective.

In fact, if everyone else is doing it. Is a very good reason to use an other form of marketing.

As an example think of all the cleaners that got burned with Yellow Page.

Cleaners mistakenly thought that your had to be their because everyone else was,
Dave with all due respect he wants to get to million dollars in THIS century and retire again, affinity marketing is great but your not building that much volume by sending boy scouts out to deliver your flyers or whatever. Its niche at best in this specific industry.

    Shane,

You're showing your total ignorance of the concept of affinity marketing.

    Boy Scouts? Flyers?

Affinity marketing is marketing through prospects that already have a relationship/membership with each other.

As with any other form of marketing. It is to be use inconjunction with your other marketing.systems.

It is much better that cold marketing methods for various reasons.

It makes your marketing far less costly, more effective, easier, creates a buzz and it brings in clients that spend more and are not price shoppers.

Major franchises are finding it works for them.

    But, what would they know?

I think i know what it means, but i do question if you do

Most Affinity marketing cuts down along religion, ethnic, income lines, or career say other business owners, women owned businesses. Remember Benie Madoff the best affinity marketer of all time { unfortunately a crook also} he targeted other people like him jewish, wealthy, country club set. This is a perfect example of affinity marketing

Not to mention the poster is looking to build $100,000 month in business not 10,completely different

    You are getting closer Shane.

Why would you question something that I have devoted over 5 years of research into?

Like I said before. It's marketing to prospects that have an affinity or common interest.

(I don't know how that brought Boy scouts or flyers to your mind.)

The biggest companies in the world actively use affinity marketing.

$100,000 a month for them would be a drop in the bucket.

They know the many benefits of using warm marketing V/S worn out traditional cold methods.

    This may help you:

    Affinity group definition:

Affinity groups are organized in a non-hierarchical manner, usually using consensus decision making, and are often made up of trusted friends of a common ideology. They provide a method of organization that is flexible and decentralized.

Affinity groups can be based on a common ideology , a shared concern for a given issue (eg. anti-nuclear) or a common activity, role or skill . Affinity groups may have either open or closed membership, although the latter is far more common.

    Marketing definition:
Marketing is the process by which companies determine what products or services may be of interest to customers, and the strategy to use in sales, communications and business development.[1] It is an integrated process through which companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers in return.[1]

Dave, How come so many times you post in a thread it becomes about you and your ideas. It's SOOOO freaking annoying. You seem to hijack threads, thus causing "The Dave Show". You incessantly argue about your ideology and methods, yet no one else seems to care about it. I understand, to a certain degree, you are selling your product.... Well.... advertise like the rest of um. Oh wait you don't do that, cause it doesn't work, scratch that last comment. Which brings me to my next point. I wonder.. If your affinity marketing works so well why are you not a large multi-truck operation, making millions a year. Or are you still to early in the research stages?

As for your comment about what I said earlier. All that media works fine. Just ask Wal-mart, Sears, Apple, the millions of people that get scammed everyday by the ads for foreclosure books they hear on the radio, godaddy.com, hostgator.com, all liquor companies, fast food companies. The list is endless. Then lets go local.... doctors, lawyers, restaurants, grocery stores, pet shelters and to completely prove my point... we have a local plumbing company that put their names on the front of the YP book, among other places. With in a few years they had the largest plumbing company in our area. Finally lets look at the one that hits closest to home, Stanley Steemer. Everyone on this board knows that they are who they are, not because they produce the best product, high quality work or because of affinity marketing its because the have a HUGE advertising budget. PERIOD. The more exposure you have, the more people see, the more the phone will ring. Yes, it is expensive, but it works. Don't act like it doesn't.

It is not how I want to run my business, because that does not stroke my ego like building the company from the ground up does, plus I don't have the capitol. But some people want to do that. So let them. You way is not the only way.... Please do us all a favor, put it to rest.

    Matt,

If you read through the post on this topic.

The one that was hijacking and seemed like an advertisement.

(They even included a sales video about their product in their post.

I don't know how more blatant of an ad it could of been.)

Was the post by Steve Massio Fiddle.

I don't know why you have to constantly attack my posts.

If you read through the posts you'lll see that I started by being sincere and helpful like I always am.

Then an other poster showed he was lacking as to the definition of what affinity marketing is.

So, I provided him with the definition from the dictionary.

You might find this hard to believe. But,the guy was so confused that he even though it had something to do with boy scouts and flyers.

Not to demean the guy. But, WOW ! What was he smoking!

    So back to your comment.

Since, you are now the the self appointed posse of the board.

You got the wrong guy, deputy

You might have to turn in your tin badge when the sheriff finds out.

PS. All media doesn't work fine.

The guys that sell advertising on Maps, Cash Register Receipts, Placemats, and thousands of other worthless advertising must love you.

    Just here to help-

I would be happy if he would just write paragraphs in a single space format, you know like they teach 5 graders, it is very annoying.Yes we all make grammer/punctuation mistakes but this is basic stuff and just makes it easier to read.

Dave, it was a sarcastic comment not literal look up sarcasm in dictionary
Like i stated i know exactly what affinity marketing is and gave an example. Bernard Madoff concentrated on recruiting clients in country clubs who were jewish and wealthy, just like HIM. income, ethnic, religion check check check

Now please explain your quack program to the thousands of readers of TMF, we all want to know.

There is also a new book by Michael Lewis of Moneyball fame that is reviewed in the same issue.

Re: Carpet Cleaning Marketing Help Needed

    Dave
I thought you only have to spend 15 mins. a week marketing your product or service and then just set back for the next 20 years and rack it in???
How long have you spent on this post alone? How much time each week do you spend on this site expounding your wisdom just to try to sell your package? A lot more that 15 mins.!!!!!!!

How long have you spent on this post alone? How much time each week do you spend on this site expounding your wisdom just to try to sell your package? A lot more that 15 mins.!!!!!!!

    Ron ,

    What are you talking about?

How can there be a correlation to the amount of time spent marketing to cleaning prospects and time spent here giving advise and answering questions about marketing?

    What?

Take this week for instance. I spent no time, no money and no effort marketing to prospects and I still received over $800 in new work using the way I market.(not including jobs from internet, referrals, current clients, etc...)

What kind of ROI would that be?

That still doesn't mean that if I hear about cleaners on this forum telling me their marketing efforts are not very effective.

That I can't suggest that they would be better off thinking about building client relationships instead of advertising.

Aren't we supposed to help others here?

If you knew a better way that could help others with chemicals ,equipment or marketing would you just keep it to yourself?

    Also,
    For your information.

I wasn't the one trying to sell anything here.(I already explained this)

I only offered ways to find more information after being prompted by Shane.

    Ron,

This post was about offering marketing help.

    You didn't.

Instead you changed the subject into an attack post.

    Not very helpfull!!
