Fringe..aarrgh
Fringe browning...How can I fix this?
Pictures don't really show full extent of browning either.
Also, browning is only on the top side of fringe...seems odd.

Is it wool or cotton? The fringe are most likely cotton and you browned them being too wet . Reclean and get dry will usually correct this.
We use Chemspec fringe cleaner or Haitian Cotton Shampoo
and rinse very well .. Drying it is important...Last edited by DiGi; 03-10-2010 at 06:36 PM.

Some people use acid rinse, then if it still remains d-brown or 3-5% peroxide. But don't mix dbrown (reducer) with peroxide (oxidizer).

I have a free guide to fringe cleaning that I will be glad to share with anyone who sends me an EMAIL and ask for it.
Browning is easier to avoid than to correct.
Browning on fringes can come from two sources or a combination, soil wicking or tannin / pH browning.
Sometimes the simple solutions such as spraying with an acid neutralizer like Fab Set will work. Most often you will need to reclean them properly and make sure they are not left with any alkaline reisudes and that they dry quickly.
Oxidizers and reducers will weaken cotton.fibers. Be careful when using them. Your clinet may find the fibers pull out or break in the future.
Keep in mind that the natural color of cotton is not white. They had to bleach your T shirts to get that cotton white. Rug fringes should be off-white.

Giving rugs a bath, and drying them out flat, alleviates most fringe cleaning issues. Most browning comes from the fringe not truly being washed thoroughly during the cleaning process because many people only surface clean the rugs rather than soak and suds them and rinse them.
