Hydramaster Spitfire 3.2 PROBLEM WONT START

Ok, everything was working fine vaccum and pressure all the previous times that i used it. And after seating for 2 weeks it wont start. It just clunks and wont even try to start. I thought it was the battery so i charged it hooked it back up and still same thing. So i checked the ignition switch, and there is power going in, and not as much coming out with the ignition key turned all the way. Any suggestions? And yes i am holding down the little black button on the side lol.

I think your blower is stuck from sitting for so long. Spray a bunch of penetrating oil down inside your blower and let it sit for awhile to see if that will loosen it. If not, you may have to put a pipe wrench on the coupling or something and break it loose.

Not a serious thing...just a pain in the ass.

Good luck and welcome to TMF!

Numbers are very important when trying to diagnose a problem like this. How much voltage is at the battery before turning the ignition? Then check how much voltage the battery states while turning the ignition. Voltage drop should be no more than .5 volts. If so you have a resistance issue. Checking and cleaning all the insulated terminals is imperative. If you have done all this and voltage drop is still an issue then you probably have a bad starter.

I think chris is correct. What I found is put a pipe wrench on it and go the oposite direction of the way it spins. Usually breaks it loose easier. looking at the machine from the front you would spin to your left. PB blaster works very well.

    Smile

The vaccum blower was stuck, i took the vaccum hose attached to the vaccum blower off conncected to the recovery tank and sprayed some PB blaster in the vaccum blower, the i took a pipe wrench and turned the cupler to the left like posted above, and it started on the first try. But slowly died after 10 secs, and now it wont turn over again. What should i do?

also how do i properly lubricate the blower motor, where is the inlet?

Keep lubricating it and turning it with the wrench till it turns completely free or you are going to kill the starter or take a tooth out of the flywheel.

Finally got it to start!, the fuel pump was out!.....i dono what caused it to go out tho, everything was running fine, it just sat for a month or so... I dono, The new problem im having is, the new fuel pump wont work without being hooked up straight to a battery, i traced the wire back and found that it was hooked up on a relay, I changed that relay hoping that the relay was bad, and still nothing. Is there a diagram how the wires are hooked up on that relay? Theres some wires of that relay that go to other things.....Plz help or im goin to have to hook it up to a switch?? i dont know if that safe tho, would it damage the fuel pump if the machine is not running and the switch is on?....

When I hooked up my fuel pump on my Spitfire 4.0, I just hooked up the hot to the red wire coming from harness.

To make sure, I turned the key on the unit to the "ON" position and found the wire that was hot by using a test light. Once I found the wire I hooked it up and have not had a problem since!

I am sorry if I miss speak; but this seems a little weird; kinda like 2 different people speaking. Sort of reminds me of when someone from another board sort of hijacked a thread I started.

E; not sure of who bayareasfinest is. Sounds like you both have the same problem; Why is that?

I don't understand... they both own spit fires and anyone who owns those lovely machines are bound to have similar problems. Don't see the similarities maybe you could help me out here.

Sounds like a smart idea. Because tracing a hot wire from the ignition is what I would have done for a fuel pump. It doesnt need a relay bud. I'm glad you found the issue and relayed it back to us.

I am going to hook up the negative straight from the battery to the fuel pump, and which wire should i hook up the positive too on the ignition switch? I did test a couple of hot ones with a test light also, but was wondering if having the fuel pump running withought the machine running would it damage the fuel pump it self? or floud the machine with gas?.......englight me plz

    No problem Rickie!

Stavros----Use the test light to find the hot wire when the ignition is in the "ON" position. Then turn the key off, then the light on the test light should turn off.....that way the fuel pump is only turning on when you are in the ignition mode!

I did, i tested the wires with a test light and i got it hooked up to the hour meters positive, which gives it power only when the igntion is on. And it started fine and everything but died after a minute!?...and it was getting gas. Now im wondering if the fuel pump i got is flooding it? The pump is rated at 4 - 7 psi.

The relay the fuel pump was originally hooked up to was this one in the picture below. I replaced the relay because i dont know if its bad. But now i dont remember which way the wires were hooked up on it. And theres a coupe switches and i think the water pump is hooked up on it. On top of my problem of not starting again on my post above :((((((((
