Scott, how long can most pads last prior to replacing???Actually the Spinergy pads are pretty different from the 3M or TWister systems. Spinergy uses natural fibers pads rather than synthetic. They have found a way to embed the diamonds more consistently or evenly over the surface of the pad and more diamonds.
More diamonds plus a more durable pad means that Spinergy pads gets the job done faster and last considerably longer.

Most of our customers report getting between 5,000 and 10,000 sq. ft. from a pad. A few as little as 3,000 sq. ft and several have said 15,000 to 20,000 sq. ft.
There are two things that seem to most effect the life of the pad.
1) How clean you keep the pad. They should be rinsed after each use. Then stored back in the box facing all the same direction (no face to face). If you toss the pad on a dirty floor or on the groun or in the back of thevan, it wil pick up some abrasive soil that can scratch the next floor you use it on. So keep the pad clean.
2) How level the floor is or how much lippage there is. On a flat floor a clean pad can go for that 20,000 sq. ft. But if the lippage is severe it slowly damages the pad.
We have found that if the lippage ( offset of height difference between two tiles) is the thickness of 3 business cards or less, you will get 7,500 to 10,000 sq. ft. If the lippage is more than that three business cards, you will not get over 5,000 ft.
At 7,500 to 10,000 sq. ft and a cost of around $75 per pad, that is about 1 penny per sq. ft. cost. For a job you are charging $1.00 or more for.

Gary,
Do you not think there may be a need for a product like this just for maintenance purposes? I have many residential customers that I do quarterly polishing for and this seems to be a good fit, but just for that purpose. These are floors that have already been honed and polished by me. Right now I use powders for maintenance of their floors.

Quarterly polishing in residential? What are these people doing to their floors? I would not use them on a floor that you are maintaining with powders. Chances are they will dull the shine. I would only use them on a floor that you restored with the pads.

Yeah, quarterly polishing. I have about 8 houses that I do every quarter. It is in a very affluent homosexual area in town. They all had marble installed in their kitchen areas. Needless to say, they "party" a lot and the floor takes a beating from food and drink (wine).
I agree with you about not using the pads, I am just always looking to make my job easier. I am sure you do as well. If I come a across a floor that isn't in bad shape, I may buy a few just to try out. That way I can see first hand if they are worth anything. If it messes up the floor, I can fix it. That way I can have a definitive answer regarding these things.

IF you are working those floors that much, it may be worth it to try. You may also consider MB8 and MB10 from mbstone.com. Generally this product is not recommended for residential, but in this case may be beneficial.

Gary,
What is the coverage of the MB8? I looked on the website and couldn't find any data.
Joe

I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but a little goes a long way. It is on the terazzo in the senate building and the entrance of the Foxwoods Casino among some of the extreme traffic applications. Although not designed for it(nor does it claim to be)this product has proven in the field to be very effective against acid etching of the protected surface. Go over to DirtyGrout and do a search on MB8, there is a lot of good info.
