What are you guys using in the colder states to stop your equipment freezing?

We have been using a couple of oil filled radiators in the van to stop the truck mount equipment freezing but the sudden drastic drop in temperatures has made me rethink and with heavy snow comes the possibility of power cuts so ideally it looks like a gas heater system appears to be the best option but they are the best part of £500 here in England and as always you seem to be ahead of the game and more often than not what you use always seem to be better value for money than what we get in the UK.

There are dozens of options depending on how cold it gets and for how long in your area.

Since your cold snap is unusual, I would hate to spend $1000 for something that I did not need very often.

Consider simply running the machine for 20 or 30 minutes. This will keep most machines warm enough to be above freezing for three or four hours. Only the inconveninece of startinhg it up before you go to bed and waking up at night to start it again. Hopefully it is in use during the daytime and keeps warm that way.

    Heated garage. Seriously.

PS If one of your friends can't fit it in rent a garage for the winter. All it will take is one freeze up to cost you much more than the cost of renting a garage for 4 or 5 months. I fought the cold for too many years trying to unthaw a frozen up TM in the early dawn hours. It changed my life when we bought our first warehouse.

    Leigh,

My manufacturer suggested running antifreeze through my unit and bleeding my pressure hose of unwanted h20 - i.e., running it through the system until anti-freeze is "locked" in place. This should be done prior to particularly cold nights. Another method is to completely drain your unit of h20 since it will expand inside your unit and damage components during the cold.

    Kind Regards,

    Jose
