I wash them with regular detergent but I don't wash them in my personal washing machine. I take them to the laundromat when I have some downtime.

You could always pick up a cheap washer and dryer set. They can be had used for under $100 for the set usually and then stick 'em in you shop. Use it for rags, mops, and bonnets.
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. -Calvin Coolidge

BBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yup...I'm that guy)

Rub your machine in reverse direction over scrap carpet to deposit the dirt you have removed from the carpet you cleaned.
Actually - home laundry is pretty good. But do not use fabric softener either liiquid or the sheets that go in a dryer.

Wash them at home and hang up to dry.
