I think you are under paid being since every where you go you bring 50k plus in supplies to do your job. I have a relatively economical setup; with all my van stuff I's say about 20k for me. To me his lofty degree means squat if I don't have a toth ache!!!

thats nothing...your locally owned dentist probably has over million bucks tied up in fancy eqipment, insurance, payroll, supplies...sorry, but your 50k is nothing...I could see how the dentist feels..he charges someone $90 for dental work, then some uneducated carpet cleaner charges him $100 to clean
    carpets....but a owner/dentist will make several thousand
dollars each day, not just a couple hundred bucks...

Would your dentist make house calls for that price?

You are going to your clients homes. I don't think they bring their carpet to you. So you also have travel time invested.

My dentist was complaining about the poor job his carpet cleaner was doing. I gave him an estimate to clean the office. It is a pretty big office, i told him it would be around 250.00 and I would throw in repairing a couple of snags he had in his hallway. He looked at me like I was crazy. I guess his carpet will remain dirty and he will stay with the guy he doesn't like. LOL

I am actually thinking of finding a new dentist that this frustrates me so much.

My dentist is juggling about 3 to 5 patients at once, I'd guess, and spends maybe ten or fifteen minutes with each one. Then a new patient takes their place. He could see 100 patients a day at that rate. Plus, you come to him, he doesn't come to you.

I bet a busy dentist could pay himself $1k a day after expenses and payroll. With two weeks of vacation that's $200k gross per year (most dentists around here work 4 days a week). After 10% percent into an IRA and taxes, that's a net of about $120k.

My dentist was a neighbor and friend when I was young. Our family nevr had significnat bills to pay. Later I went to a dentist who was a schhol friend. We traded cleaning for dental work. Never had cash payments.

Then in Jnuary 2005 I broke 3 teeth while biting into an apple and also moved to Utah where I did not know any dentists. The bill was enough to induce a tooth ache all the wat to my spine! I have no sympathy for dentists who are too cheap to pay for quality carpet cleaning.

Scott, I think you need to drink more milk or possibly eat more apples... I'm not sure?
