Curious to see what cleaning temp most of you guys clean at for carpet cleaning?
Opinions on how much is too much heat? too little heat?

I clean between 210 and 220

There are many variables fiber type, commercial grade, built in stain protection, age of carpets being cleaned and so forth. If I had a "magic number" it would be 200 degrees + or - 5 however wool carpeting I will not go over 170 Degrees I try to keep it more in the range of 150 ish... trashed out greasy restaurants I pump the heat as hot as possible. OK, there you have it, you have twisted my arm... hope your happy now.LOL![]()

I like 180 190. However I can get it clean at 100 if needed.

Most guys don't know what temp. they clean at... Without checking the temp. at the wand you will get many different answers.. If you answer by the temp reading on your TM you are way off.

I normally crank my Boxxer all the way up to 250, but it usually only gets between 220 to 240 at the machine and drops quite a bit by the time it hits the carpet. It is still quite hot coming out of the wand, but I don't know how hot. I suspect I'm losing a good 30 degrees by the time it sprays out of the wand. When I'm doing wool I turn my diverter valve off so I'm around 150 to 170 or so at the machine. I set the machine at 200 for most upholstery.

That's why most carpet cleaners SAY at the machine!
We all know that.
Roight Then>>>>>

I mainly clean All My Jobs (inc restaurants) at around 65 - 90 şC Seems to be hot enough, Wool carpets wont get damaged by hotter water, just use less Chemical, let the TM do the work!

At the machine I am reading 220 to 240 using my Prochem Quad Jet wand. I am plaining on getting a in-line thermometer to see what my actual temp is at the wand. If I had to take a guess it is around 20o less than at the machine.

here is the funny thing . When you crank it as bigh has you can. then you spray the carpet even with wand jset extenders mas amount of heat donew with several tests on the carpet is about 180 to 185.

The higher the temperatures in your machine, the greater the build-up of scale. For the sake of your equipment, don't use more heat than necessary.

Also , most are not getting as hot on the carpet as they think. Assuming you can get 200 degrees at the tip of the spray jet, you are still going to lose approx 30 degrees per inch of travel before it hits the carpet. On many wands that is at least 2 inches through the atmosphere before that happens. Therefore 200 degree water can turn to 140 degree water very quickly. Below about 140 though the temp drops off more slowly than this as the differential in temp becomes narrower.![]()

For us with our porty it all depends on how high they have their water heater set. If it doesn't feel very hot to me I will ask if I can turn their heater up. I set it to 150 degrees if its not already there. Then going through 2000 watt heaters I would like to assume it gets even hotter then that. I try to only use 25 ft of hose 50 ft max so I lose some heat but probably not as much as a 100ft or more TM run. Plus we use the 360 and the jets are pretty close to the carpet and the 360 head has a shroud around it. Most of the time steam is coming out the sides of the 360. So I can't say for sure the exact temp but probably I would think at least 150 degrees at the floor.
For me it depends on how much hose I have out. I have tested the water temp coming out of my jets and have gotten readings from 200-230, depending on hose length.

I usually run around 180-200 max at the wand.

Just be careful..I have yet to see one of these that are made correctly....the probes on these things are more sensitive then what people realize.....they really should be protected by a thermowell.....
A thermowell will protect the probe from the high pressure and heat that we generate.....with out one.....it will lose the calibration and/or damage the probe in very short time.....I am working on putting one of these together as soon as all the material comes in and I will show it to you...It will be a permanent mount on the base of the wand..with the ability of being able to remove the temp probe when you don't want it on there..but the fittings and the thermowell will stay in place...........

Like the others said, the machine reads 240 but it goes down if I use my rx20 due to the high volume. My line is always hot when I use the wand and the temp on the machine won't go down to much because I guess that I give it enough time to warm up by doing dry strokes. I really don't need or care to know what the temp is at the wand.

I use to loose temp when I would use my RX...so I started getting off the trigger more...at the end of the left and right pass I let off the trigger and allow the water to stop the flow and heat some....It helped increase the temps much better......It is good to keep tabs on the temps at the wand.......normally we are a few hundred feet away from our machines and it could warn you of a problem that may be happening that you may be able to correct before it turns into a break down...........

I like to see steam....
