Thread: Do you know how many ways VOID a carpet warranty?

Have you ever read the Shaw carpet warranty?

If not - take a look at page 10-11 of this one:

SHAW CARPET CARE WARRANTY

Must be IICRC certified, use hot water extraction, use SOA products and machines...and look at ALL of the EXCLUSIONS... I love the one about hot liquids voiding the warranty (hmmm...as hot as HWE?) and using protector voiding it.

What really is the point - EXCEPT to try to avoid paying out any claim at all, or to try to force cleaners to jump their hoops... even though the incidents of residential cleaners WRECKING carpet is slim... a consumer has a better chance of damaging it with the SOA rental machine from their grocery store than any professional.

Can't seem to get anyone from CRI to make a statement on these issues "officially"...yet again, no dialogue with the professional cleaners who CARE for their goods... same old song and dance...

I heard that the carpet mills void the warranty before it leaves the factory because they manufacturer it with poor materials.


In all seriousness though,has anyone noticed the quality of carpet these days? It is sad.

Am I a complete dunce or does page 10-11 give tips on how to clean?

No doubt there are many things that could void a warranty. I'd suspect that many cleaners also have a disclaimer with exclsuions on what stains they can remove or what reasons they will return for additional cleaning, what they are not responsible for and so forth. If you use preprinted forms, have you read your own legalese recently?

Those can be there for protection from unreasonable consumers. There are plenty of unreasonable people. I do a lot of mill claim inspections including Shaw but others as well. I know folks whose dog clawed a carpet to shreds and another who spilled a bucket of paint. Another tried a do it yourself cleaning with a few cans of carberator cleaner - resulting in delamination. All three put in claims for new carpet. I recommended denying all three claims.

But I have also seen Shaw replace scores of carpet if the problem was there fault or many if the issue was in doubt.

BTW - Applying any quality protector will not result in warranty being voided. But there was some real junk out for a while and some manufacturers saw a need to protect themselves against claims that were caused by bad protector not bad carpet.

Yes Rob carpets today are more or less pathetic. I Clean carpets all the time from the 50's, 60's and 70's and they are almost effortless to clean, and look like showroom condition when they are cleaned. Some carpets less than 3 years old look horrible and show traffic wear and when cleaned show damage from normal every day use. Even if its a tiny lil old lady.
