Cleaning Chemicals for heavy soiled traffic ares

When reading instructions and warning on the traffic lain cleaners like add-in booters and Traffic Slam.
"Not designed for 5th generation stain resistant carpets."
"Not designed for 5th generation nylon carpets."

What do these cleaners do to 5th generation carpets when used on them, also, isn't most new carpeting a 5th generation carpet?

How do does a cleaner know what is 5th generation and whats not?

I have my ideas but want to confirm with others.

    Thanks.

Almost 100% of residential nylon carpeting will be 5th generation nylon.

The manufacturers warranties do not allow the use of any product with a pH higher than 10.0. So cleaning agnets with pH above 10.0 will have the cautions you spoke of.

Commercial carpet, carpet in rental properties is not covered by these wrranties. So, you can use whatever is needed.

The restriction on pH does not apply to olefin, polyester, Triexta or other fibers. So Traffic Slam would be an excellent choice for use on these fibers.

If the carpets are in a residential home and are not old enough for the warranty to have expired, hopefully they don't nned the strongest cleaning agent. Consider using Zone Perfect which is made for 5th generation nylon or Green Balance prespray.

If the newer residential nyloin carpet is trashed, likely the warranty is not effect anyway. They probably have already done something to void it.

Is warranty the only issue or can traffic slam do any type of damage to nylon?

I install carpet and vinyl for the largest store in town and some of the smaller ones too. I have had customers make warranty claims from both. The only ones that were accepted were from the one with the most sales. Go figure.

You can lower the Ph of traffic slam and other traffic line cleaners with liquid citric acid. either in your rinse or mixx with prespray.
Can be gotten at interlink supply. if you use 2 ounces of traffic slam at 11 ph to bring it down use 1 ounce of citric acid. should bring it down to about 8 ph. use ph test strips to verify. even pool ph strips work just fine

Yes the high pH can affect the carpets protectant but you can always use an acid rinse and reapply a protectant. I usually only use traffic slam and boost all on commercial and polys. Like Scott said tho if the carpet you are working on is trashed you have to use what works. In that case I am sure the warrenty is void.

    Scott,

Could you nullify the higher PH if you rinse w/an acid rinse or something like Fab Set?

I think you could limit the damage done by the high pH to an undectable level by rinsing with an acid side product. However, that would not meet the written warranty requirement of many manufacturers. They specifically say "Do not use pH over 10.0"

I am not sure they are able to enforce this or detect what cleaning products have been used. But I would not advice a cleaner to void the warranty if that was a concern to the home-owner.
