So far I fell into the carpet cleaning business because of my father, cleaned carpets for about 11 years and now own TruckMountForums.

I still remember pushing the Vonshrader machine......argh was that a pain or what!

Their is a guy on my block who is still using those Vonshrader carpet cleaning machines too!

My Brother and I are both working for the business my dad started, in fact my first truck was a 1988 Ballweber (If anyone remembers Arine Ballweber I would be amazed).

I hope the line of carpet cleaners stops here. I have higher aspirations for the kids. Not anything against the business but surely we all had hopes and dreams beyond deducing the best method for removing fido's fecal matter.

I thought we just broke down and put in a scape yard somewhere!

No kids - But if a father has a succesful company - to pass it down would be nice.

Look at the new guy running Hooters and the one that was running Budwieser!

I'm the only Dummy that does this in my family.
My son is a Captain in the Army.
My youngest daughter is a nurse.
My oldest daughter before she passed was a teacher.

PS: Bryan Gary Heacock had a Ballweber in a 1985 Chevy Astro Van had over 300,000 miles I think when he sold it. Great Mach.

My son and daughter went on jobs as part of the family cleaning business by the time they could walk. They prefered helping to empty trash cans over coloring or playing with their toys.

My daughter learned a lot about office work from working in our office and helping to run our fracnhise operation. She did not stay in cleaning but still uses skill she learned from the family business.

My son decided to get into computer sale and did very well. Eventually he decided that cleaning was not such a bad career. He went to work for a first class operation near Nashville. Still cleanes plenty of carpet and upholstery but also maintains a lot of stone.

My son has worked with me for years but he is off to collage next yr. Then off to bigger and better things I will miss him riding next to me. I hope he will miss our working together too. Even though he says he will not.

Kids live with their momma. long dramatic story there. Three girls no cc's in that bunch. their mom just takes the cash she gets from me and off to the phillipines for a month, or hawaii, drives a nice escalade.. glad I did the prenuptuals.. cuz It isnt me paying for that crap. just a moderated fund setup for the girls for moms house costs, their school funds, health care, dental etc.. soooooo glad I was able to have the funds moderated.. but getting to enforce visitations in Oregon,, isnt set up for the man at alll

I am hoping my girls end up with an awesome guy I can give the company to does that count?? he will run it but I still keep the title in my name and accounting accounts.

my son is 15 and has helped me a few times when he was 13 I took him to a vacant on a 100 degree day it was 90 degree's in the house I cranked my 405 on high pre sprayed the room with my hydroforce and let him clean a whole room. He was beet red and sweating he looked at me and said Dad I dont wanna clean carpet when I get older Im going to stay in school. Priceless.

So needless to say as much as I love this gig for me I would like to see all my kids get a job with healthcare ,retirement benefits and paid vacations.
I mean hell if I raised my rates I could have all those things too but no paid vacation thats were you need a couple trucks and someone else runs the show.

My 3 boys worked with me in their late teens and early twenties. They all used it as a stepping stone to get to better things. Which I encouraged. The one that managed my shop. Now manages a factory. And the one that was out making service calls. Went to college at the sametime and became an electrician. Now they both make alot more money than me. The 3rd makes about the same money I do but he's doing something he likes to do.
