Review:
Red Zone, Bridge Point's latest product to help remove all types of food, beverage based stains, medicine and much more. Bridge Point has decided to go towards using a 2 part system ( 1 pint each which equals 1 quart) rather than using 1 bottle. Reason being is because they ran into stability and short shelf life issues with Red Zone, which I will discuss later. You will find out that the price of 1 package is reasonable ($15.55/each) which is in between competitor prices.
Almost every job has some sort of red stain on the carpet, especially if they have pets or kids. I have had the chance to use RedZONE for the last couple days out in the field for some of the most toughest red stains around! When your pre-spray or spotters just can't do the job, RedZONE saves the day! Let's take RedZONE for a spin and see how well it work's on different types of carpet out in the field....

As you can see, most of the time I never had to use a heat transfer with a iron and wet clothe. Although I did try 1 heat transfer on a medicine stain where a customer has already tried cleaning up herself with over the counter products, and it did not even budge. So during this review I had the chance to ask "Scott Warrington from Bridge Point" a few questions about RedZONE: 1) What kind of spots is made for Red Zone and what spots not to put Red Zone onto? Red Zone is specifically made for stains from food dyes and artificial coloring. Some of the places these are found include products such as Kool Aid and many other soft drinks, Jell-O, cough syrups, mouth wash and some pet foods.
Red Zone is a reducing agent and will work on many other difficult stains. Although there are a few “rules” about when to use an oxidizer and when to use a reducer, often either one will work.
2) How successful is red zone if the customer has already tried cleaning it with cleaning agents like, resolve, glory, spot shot? Some consumer products can damage the carpet by removing color. Sometimes the consumer gets aggressive and makes the carpet look fuzzing from too much scrubbing. No cleaning product will correct these misuses. However, IF OTHER PRODUCTS ARE RINSED OUT Red Zone should work fine most of the time. There will still be sometimes when a consumer has set a stain. It is hard to predict and test all the possible combinations of conditions, cleaners, carpets, spills and so forth that might occur. So I am sure sometimes what the consumer has done will mean that Red Zone can’t get the stain out, but I think that will be the exception.
BTW – Red Zone (and many other spotters) work best on a dry carpet for two reasons 1) Any water present somewhat dilutes the product. 2) Synthetic fibers will only absorb a certain amount of liquid. If they are already full of water, then the Red Zone can’t be absorbed in as far. It is best if the stain remover gets absorbed in just as far as what caused the stain.
Your experience may tell you before you clean that certain spots will need special treatment. Best to get the Red Zone out early in the job. If the carpet is wet from cleaning or from rinsing out something the consumer has used, use an air mover to get it at least partially dry.
2) Red Zone has a #2 health rating, is there any chance that Bridgepoint would work on a Green Red Zone product in the future? This is definitely something we have already been looking at and will continue to search for. Of course, the product has to work well first. I might also mention that Tom Forsythe, who heads our product development, is very conservative about the health ratings he gives our products. He once told me, “I want to make people think about being careful. I would give a “1” health rating to bottled water.”
4) What are the differences between A/B solutions and why did Bridgepoint choose not to make a all in 1 Red Zone? One part is a reducing agent. The other part contains an accelerator that speeds up the action of the reducing agent. The second part also contains a special blend of surfactants that help the two parts mix together and penetrate the stain.
We have been looking into a one part product. We would have been thrilled to come up with a good one part red stain remover. The principal problem was not that we could not get a one part red stain remover to work, but rather we found issues with stability and short shelf life. From the time we make a product, put it in our warehouse, it gets ordered by a distributor, sits on the shelf at the distributor, gets bought by a cleaner and carried around in his hot van and finally used on a job a month or two may have passed. If the product is only has a shelf life of 3 or 4 months, we will have some cleaners who are not happy with the product by the time the bottle is empty.
Lasting Appeal:
One of the biggest problems with RedZONE is that you have to carry around 2 bottles and have to wait almost twice as long compared to using 1 bottle. Another issue would be your health, it does have a #2 rating in the Health section according to the MSDS sheet. Symptoms include coughing, hoarseness, sneezing, tearing, and breathing difficulty. It also causes cancer in rats (but what chemicals don't these days...but please be careful). This being the case, PLEASE use Gloves & a high quality Respirator.

Aside from those down falls, RedZONE worked great on many different types of carpet, even old ones! As you can see from the video, I never had to re-use the products over again to fully remove the stains. I am not stating that this won't happen, but majority of the time it work's on the first go! Bridge Point sure has came to the Industry with a quality product, but if you can work around the health issues and carrying around 2 bottles to remove those tough stains, then you must decide if RedZONE would be right for you or not.
