Understand that the profit amount is after a good salary has been paid to the owner. Some sole proprietors tend to think of their income as profit. True profit is after you have paid yourself a fair salary including benefits like paid vacation, insurance and so forth.

You are right, Scott. It is called Owner's Adjusted Cash Flow and simply defined as the money left over AFTER you paid a fair market salary to replace yourself and all the work you do in your company. If you do not make enough from your company to pay someone to do what you do then you have no OACF and your business is basically worth the liquidation value of your assets. Ouch!
