How often would Blue Ribbon Floor Care recommend dehumidifying a home to help control smell?

My advice for homes that are in the Savannah and Hinesville Geogia area would be as follows.
Your homes Air Conditioning is a great dehumidifier. As for how often to add or use the home unit to dehumidify has many factors. Some include the humidity comfort level of those in the home, the source of the humidity, and if more work needs to be done to stop the humidity problem from coming back!
Comfort level for one is not the same for all. Here it would be best to get a humidity meter from the department store – they are inexpensive. Then when you are comfortable look and see what the humidity level is. Then later look when you are not comfortable. This gives you a guideline for what is good for you.
The source of the humidly needs to be controlled as best as possible. Wet walls, moist concrete slabs and even small leaks in plumbing can be a common humidity source. Not having control here can cause problems and great expense. What if the problem is moisture from and wet slab? Then you use a store bought dehumidifier. The moisture in the slab can be from high water levels in the yard and poor damage away from the house. The problem could be from a plumbing leak in the slab. Both of these would be a very expensive problem to just try and remove the moisture alone. How much is the cost to remove the moisture, pay the electric bill, water bill or try to remove all the moisture from the ground as it comes into the house?
At BRFC we understand that it is best to find the source of a problem than to just fix the results. Stop the source then fix the problem it caused. We look at each problem first as “what caused this” and then what is the “best way to stop that from happening again.”
