I got my van into my garage. When I bought this house, I realized that the garage was too short by several inches, so I've been keeping my van outside. The TM has two problems: the float valve on the freshwater tank does not work, so I have to fill it from the top, and the auto-cutoff on the waste tank does not work (when it failed the machine cut off so I had to bypass it). I don't know what it's called--it's at Home Depot and Lowes. It's a thick wire wrapped in foam, so you can bend it and it stays. They're also cheap. I use them to hook my hoses to the bannister because they don't pop off. The hose stays secure even when the vacuum kicks in and tugs on it.

We are not set up for this! My street hasn't been cleared yet, and it snowed three days ago. The mailman hasn't even been down my street. Main roads are clear, but most of the neighborhoods I've seen are kinda hairy. I'll be glad when it warms up.

So I was wondering why I wasn't getting any email the other night, but I didn't worry much about that. Yesterday morning I sat down at the computer and opened Firefox. My website is the home page, so I can see if anything has gone wrong. I got a "cannot find this page" type message. I called Hostgator to see what was going on , and they told me that my domain had expired. "Renew it!" I said, of course. They told me they couldn't, they weren't the people I got it with. It had originally been bought through Melbourne I. So there I am, trying to get my kids ready for school and calling Australia to sort out my website. They told me that it had been moved to Yahoo--I must have done that two years ago. Suddenly I was sorry I blessed Yahoo out for billing me every quarter long after I'd moved my website!

They forgave me, though. I had to renew through Yahoo, or it would take over a week to get my site back up. This way, he said, it would happen in about 24 hours. We're at 20 hours now, and I'm on pins & needles. My website is my main form of advertising, and gets a few search engine hits a day. I had several other websites, but they were all subdomains of this one, and they all had 301 redirects on them anyway, so I have no web presence other than Local Results, which points to my website. At the moment I can't get my email, either.

I guess the lesson I should take from this is to organize my affairs! I have to get everything under Hostgator.

This isn't an excuse anymore--I have been on a mission for the last few months to learn about web development and SEO. Now I have low first-page placement, but with a lot of momentum behind me. The website is an acceptable shell for the time being. My new mission is copywriting! I had hired a freelancer to create some web copy for me, but he has flaked. January has always been a very light business time for me. It gives me a chance to sit down at a desk and make my plans, which is good. My pump froze over the weekend, leaving me unable to work on Monday. I got another heater and an electric blanket, and warmed it up. It still worked and did not leak. Those people who live up north know what is going to happen next.

Of course my heating devices were on an extension cord, all coming from one circuit. They overloaded the circuit, who knows when, leaving me with frozen lines again. I'm warming it up now to try to save it.

I can't remember it ever being this cold for this long in NC (teens and 20s at night). It's going to go on for a few more nights, so I'll be babysitting the heaters. I'll try to reach one socket without an extension cord, and I'll run the extension cord to a separate socket on a different circuit.
