small wool runners with cotton backing

I did an upholstery estimate (empty vacation rental) and the owner wants me to clean 5 runners that are approximately 6' x 2' each. They are wool with a cotton backing. I was going to vacuum, prespray with axiom and acid rinse with fabset. I would use my hydromaster upholstery tool so I don't overwet the fabric and turn the heat down to 175. Any chance of shrinking these? Thanks.

There are countless variations in how area rugs are woven. So without every little detail, it would be impossible to say if there is a chance of shrinking them.

Most rugs with cotton foundation yarns have a least some chance of shrinking. I would be careful to not over-wet and to dry them quickly. Depending on the local weather conditions and temeperature in the unit you are cleaning, it may require turning up the heat or using an air mover, maybe even a dehumidifier.

Also watch for binding or surging on the edge that could shrink and cause the rug to curl.

Those are the main potential hazards.

Post a photo. If they are Chinese tufted rugs with a loose material backings - not much to worry about. BUT - need to see a photo.
