    Oriental Rug Cleaning

hey guys just asking if any one has a coment on a good area rug report that they use. I jhave one but I don't think that it is good enough, Does anyone have input on how to CYA on inspection. I have been through two IICRC classes on rugs and was looking at the rug book Dusty from RugBagger sells on his site. Any input????

The book by Ellen and Aaron is excellent. Pricy but excellent.

You CYA on inspection of rugs by:

    1) ID fibers, dye stability, and construction type
    2) ID all pre-existing conditions (front and back of the rug)
    3) Document all of it - in writing and with photos
    4) Communicate in plain English on the invoice, what the exact cost is BEFORE the work begins
    5) Communicate realistic expectations and what will NOT come out with your cleaning
    6) Carry proper insurance for the unexpecteds - theft, flood, fire
    7) If care, custody, control insurance is available (workmanship coverage) - get it (not all states provide this) - also covers property during transport

It does not matter what fine print waiver you provide - in court it will not hold up, based on my experience. Judges usually resent that you cannot clean up disputes with consumers outside of the courtroom, and businesses are always seen as the ones taking advantage of consumers.

That said - if you write on the invoice "pet stains will not come out with the wash, but client wants work done anyway" and they sign it - that will hold up more so than the half page waiver.

This does not have to be complicated ... just needs to be clear.

I now have my customers sign in their own words a waiver and we both sign it.
