    Stubborn urine

Got his rug in - lady got it off ebay. One end has a urine smell - heavier on the back. rest of rug is fine. When I first got it in I sprayed it wirh Bac-Out and let it sit till I got to it. Then I sprayed it with MB anti allergen deod really heavy front and back - let sit for over an hour. Extracted. Still has a smell to it. I need to get this back pretty quick. I also scrubbed and extracted the entire rug. Here are some pics - could use a rug ID on it as well. Urine smell only on about the last 6-8 inches in the corners on one end. May be cat.

Always start by a thorugh inspection. Check the rug to see if it is colorfast.

Soak the rug in water wqith a urine prespray added. I suggest Bridgepoint's TCU Neutralizer. Let it soak overnight.

Rinse and extraction the next day should take care of it. Could also use Hydrocideand good ventilation if required after the extraction.

    OSR on wool a no-no?
Did lots of research and seems like the master Blend is being used by quite a few cleaners. Didn't soak it as the pit has been pretty full lately and I wanted to get this one done. May soak the one end tomorrow.

This NEEDS TO BE SOAKED. If you want - just soak the one end. Pour vinegar straight on the smelliest areas, and use a water claw to pull urine out. If that water does not run yellow - then the odor is not urine. Vinegar will liquify the urine salts and get them out. Be careful with that blue - make sure it's colorfast.

We handled a rug at the rug cleaning clinic I just did in Canada that had SEVERE cat urine contamination - to the point that there were areas of dry rot from years of urine exposure. It was BAD. We poured vinegar on the areas, used the water claw, and then soaked the entire rug and flood washed it - that water ran golden.

Afterwords there was an odor (it was far too contaminated to remove all of it) so we extracted, then placed a tarp over the rug and used the Odorox machine. In half a day, that odor was almost gone, and after a day there was no hint of any odor at all. That machine worked a miracle - it was a tight weave Persian rug, very tough to remove odor from.

I would ask around to see who has an Odorox in your town - and borrow it. One good day, two if you have it, will kill whatever odor it is. Otherwise, you need to do what I mentioned in the beginning to remove that source.

When you are applying these other solutions front and back of the rug you are NOT reaching the middle of the rug - this is why getting the rug fully wet and washed outperforms even the most meticulous surface cleaning.

Hope that helps ... I'll try to post some photos when I get home (I'm in the Nashville airport heading now to AZ for a few days).

    the rug chick,
