Wool rugs and HEAT don't mix

Just a quick FYI... for any of you using a truck mount on WOOL.

Had a recent cleaner who tested, used a dye stabilizer from CTI, cleaned one rug fine, and the second one - as the truck mount got higher - bled it.

Just need to be careful with heat and wool rugs. (And if you ever think to use heat on silk rug - just quit the business NOW.)

Heat will make the dyes MOVE faster on you. So keep it low.

I just want to qualify the above,Lisa is talking about Wool Rugs.
The majority of the carpet i clean here in Australia Probably 80% plus are Wool/ Wool Blend carpets and i have never had a problem using heat on any of them.
I did do the very first Woolsafe course when it was introduced into Australia and qualified but let it lapse as i could see NO benefit of being a member. The training i received from Leo Powell at the Australian Capet Cleaning Institute was, in my opinion equal to or even better than what Woolsafe presented.

Hey Mick - I should have clarified on this wool RUGS - because the dyes involved have a big issue with heat... and that is not what you'd come across in installed wool.

Thanks for pointing that out buddy!

Good tips. I think it would be nice if more wall to wall carpeting was wool. I used to love cleaning them and they cleaned up great for me. They looked like new and wore very little.

Luke warm ain't going to hurt it. We use cold water in cleaning, but we are washing on a floor. When I test dye colorfastness I use boiled water in a kettle, that has cooled a tad - and that makes the dye MOVE if it's going to at all. So at that temp and higher... I think you are dancing with danger.

The UK guys and Aussie guys use steam cleaning on wool every day... the difference is the dyes and the migration risk. High heat can also affect texture, especially when coupled with wand strokes or agitation.

Just makes it a safer experience for wool oriental rugs - to stay on the warm/cool side.
