    Rug Rack Beams

    Hi

I only do a small number of rugs a week at the moment, but to help dry them I'm having a couple of frames made at a local metal fabricator to form a rug rack. I seen that people use a 4 x 2 beam with a drainage pipe on it and then drap the rug over that to dry it. I wondered what diameter pipe do people recommend and any other tips people who use this type of drying system might care to offer.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Eddie, Welcome to TMF.

I built this Rug Rack with simple hardware store items. Get yourself some PVC, pulleys, rope, wood, toss in a couple fans and a dehue. The first pole is a block and tackle for the really heavy ones.

    Cheers!

    Thanks Chris

Looks like you have got a great set up there, the rack I'm putting together is like a Rug Badger EZ Tower I was just wondering about the size of pipe as I don't want the rug to have a hump in it when its taken down wondered is there a diameter of pipe that is big enough to prevent this happening.

    Regards

    Re: Rug Rack Beams

Many rugs that are machine woven or tufted, will crease no matter what diameter you have. If you cannot dry them flat - then put them over SEVERAL racks instead.

If space is an issue and you have to hang them - hang them "askew". That will minimize the humps. Flat is better whenever possible though.

    Re: Rug Rack Beams

    Hi

Thanks for your replies Lisa and Rugman.
I was going to have a small rack made to hang rugs on which was going to be enclosed in part of my unheated workshop to form a small drying area with airmovers heater and dehum.

however as most of the rugs I do at the moment are tufted or machine woven not sure if I should continue down this path.

Ceiling is to low to hang rugs vertically and worshop is not really suited to be used as a drying area itself.

    Any thoughts welcome

    Kind Regards

    Eddie

    Re: Rug Rack Beams

Dry machine woven and tufted rugs flat to avoid any creasing problems. Invest in an Airpath and they will dry SUPER quick.

Request the report at www.rugsecrets.com and it lays out different ways to get the most important steps in rug cleaning done.

    Have a great weekend!

    Re: Rug Rack Beams

I like to dry rugs flat when I can, but sometimes I can't - so I have a couple of my drying beams running through 18" diameter cardboard sunoco tubes (used for concrete forms and for rolls of billboard stock) that I sheathed with 20" lay-flat ducting used in water damage restoration. Throw your tufted, olefin axminsters, broadloom carpets - anything that tends to crease - over a beam this wide and they'll lay flat no problem. Works for me!

  11. Thanks LisaWagner thanked for this post
