    Rugs That Stink...

The best way of removing odor causing elements from rugs is WASHING them.

Surface-cleaning with a portable or truck mount does not cut it.

Here's a new post on the most common stink scenarios with rugs:

    RUG CHICK: Rugs That Stink

One tools that has worked phenomenally well has been Odorox for really tough, heavy contamination odors. Here's a shot of us getting odor out of a rug with long term urine exposure:

Just another tool to have in your professional rug cleaning toolbox.

P.S. This forum has been S-L-O-W ... please post some rug questions as you get them. We love photos!

Have you cleaned rugs before Erik? Can you please post some photos?

The synthetic one you can steam clean, and use your spotters on. The WOOL one, I want to see. An all-fiber shampoo will be okay, and some vinegar to help remove the urine, but I need to see what you are working on before I give you info and you ruin it.

Spot on about surface cleaning - it'll never come out. The ammonium nitrates in pet urine (especially FELINE) is the worst if not cleaned immediately! At our service facility, with long-term issues like that we neutralize the entire rug then deep clean it using a pneumatically-controlled pressurized rolling system. I like your setup (in the pic), that's a wise approach!

    Re: Rugs That Stink...

A tip for you Lisa. If you put a towel over the intake of the open intake and around the snout of the Odorox you will get much more concentrated treatment of the rug.
Just make sure most of the air has to pass through the odorox and this will lessen the air flow for more "dwell time" as well.
