    Oushak Rugs and linear markings

Washed two new Oushak rugs a few days ago I did not take pictures unfortunately. But what happened was there were Bright green stripes that showed up after drying that ran down the length of the rug coinciding with the border design. I did not look for or see them during dusting, inspection or washing, although we will now. Then I got a moth ridden rug chewed to the foundation which also had markings on the warps and wefts. I have talked to some experts since then and was told that because of the lower skill level in some rug producing countries that this is becoming the norm. Just a little more information to get out there to make sure people inspect very very carefully, I almost got caught and we are very careful. I wish I had a picture to show but maybe someone else does.

Re: Oushak Rugs and linear markings

    Ugh, Ron - that sucks!

We had that happen to us with an Aubusson flat woven textile, blue lines popped up. We knew the gallery that sold this $6,000 piece, and he replaced it for the client because this IS a manufacturing flaw. They should not be stenciling these pieces with ink.

We did not check, because it was a NICE piece, and we assumed "no short cuts on this one." We were wrong. The weaving world is getting lazier in some areas.

But on rugs like HOOKED rugs, and anything RAYON/VISCOSE, you want to watch for these. Here's a blog and some photos on stenciling and this problem on the Rug Chick blog.

Sorry to hear about this Ron... but it's a good reminder for everyone.

No need to be sorry we did finally get it out it took some time and we had to touch up the tea dye, customer was happy but we did put a lot of time into it but it's just another thing to watch out for if you can even see it.
