I feel somewhat dishonest about subbing out rugs

I have decided to let the pros do it for now, or until I can build a better place to clean rugs.. but for some reason i feel somewhat dishonest saying yeah we clean them and then taking them to a sub concractor, I do want to make a little money off it. so i like the idea of subing out.. mmmmm how do you guys feel about tihis.. make me feel better about this... lol

Get over it.....feel better? There's nothing dishonest about saying we clean rugs and returning a clean rug.

Re: I feel somewhat dishonest about subing out rugs

When you hire a builder to build your house, do you think that guy is going to drive every nail? All he will do is sub out work to subcontractors. Its how the world turns. No reason to feel dishonest.
You are getting paid for pick up and delivery and it is your time spent. Nothing dishonest about it at all.

No reason to feel bad you are doing the best for your customer and making a little money too. I would test your choice though and make sure your Cleaner meets your expectations. Also make sure your Business Insurance covers you for care and custody and that your cleaner has full coverage too. C Y A ! Also I hope you have a clean delivery vehicle cause the best job won't cut the mustard if your rig looks like S..t .

Re: I feel somewhat dishonest about subing out rugs

John, some companies who use us tell their clients they take the rugs to us. We give them a discount, and they charge the same retail price as we do "the world" so they are not paying any more than if they called us directly.

We have a fairly steep pickup/delivery fee so the cleaners can usually charge a trip charge less than ours.

So if you feel weird, tell them you take the rugs to a specialist. There shouldn't be an issue if they trust you.

Re: I feel somewhat dishonest about subing out rugs

I usually tell them "I receive a discount because I send them bulk (which is VERY true), plus I offer free pick up and delivery. If you were to take call them they'd charge you for p/u and delivery, or do it yourself waste gas. So why not let me take it.

Or you can just make general comments about it. Before I told them what I stated above, I'd make generalized comments about the process. Like "the proper way to clean a rug is to have it put through a rug pit or rug wash in a warehouse. This way it can hand cleaned and monitored in a controlled environment. I can get that taken care of for you."

And sometimes they never even ask....

Re: I feel somewhat dishonest about subing out rugs

Great point Matt... plus John you are saving them having to pay a pickup fee or drive in to take the rugs to your sub directly. Just say "I have a specialist I take rugs to."

    Many carpet cleaners do this.

Just say what your most comfortable saying. Your customers want clean rugs and trust you to return them clean. There's no reason to turn down the additional revenue or risk losing a client to another cleaner.
