More and more of these rugs are being sold to consumers... take a look, because you are going to have these cross your path:
It is fake silk looking, but is labels as viscose/rayon/faux silk/ or Art Silk.
This week I've received a dozen rug help emails on rayon specifically, and on this forum we had a post of a rayon TUFTED rug (a double-whammy of a rug to run from... bad fiber and bad construction...plus, saturated in PEE)
There are a host of problems associated with cleaning viscose. Dye migration, dye fade, fiber distortion, yellowing, uglying over a short period of time.
I made a post on my blog for consumers to specifically address this - because when they are searching to buy a viscose rug (which retailers market as "like silk" for a fraction of the price...) - they need to know they are buying garbage, no matter how it looks in the store.
Just be wary... because if you hit these puppies with hot water, too much scrubbing, too much water for too long, or too aggressive on the wand strokes - you are going to be buying the rug for your home.
Hope that helps a few of you stay out of trouble.
Lisa
