Took in some rugs from a fire damage - pretty good shape. Found this on the back of the fringes. Fringe tape.

No, never seen that. What is the printing on the tape. It is actually a good idea assuming the adhesive doesn't hurt anything

Think it said - fringe on this side or something. It was hard to get off. Kept the fringes nice and even. When I pulled it off it left a clean area on the fringe.

there is a fringe product called "rug secret" that is being sold through rug retailers - this might be it. I usually tell clients who hate their fringe and want to cut it off... which I never let them do because the rug will unravel... is we either hide the fringe under the rug permanently with burlap material we sew along the edge, and fold the fringe under the rug covered and protected. Or, if they do not want to pay for that, I have them buy some masking tape (less adhesive than other tapes), flip the rug upside down, and do what this tape is doing, but I have them cover it up more so the tassels don't get unevenly dirty.

By the way - making the photo larger - it's definitely that rug fringe product that keeps the fringe laying out flat and in place, so it's not hiding it it's keeping it straight on the floor. I'm sure it also grabs lots of dirt in the process. Let me know how tough the fringes are to clean with that adhesive... I bet it will be a bit of a chore.

sticky fringes? ooouh
Work hard be friendly , Let God take care of the rest.

No fun but not as bad as I thought. Seems like she has a big name dept store clean them often. Weird though because that tape seemed like it was on there for a while.

The big name department store did not WASH the rug - they surface cleaned it... so they didn't touch the fringe. That's why.
