Sun drying wet rugs - why you need to be CAREFUL...

There are some rugs - such as just about everything from CHINA - that if you place in direct sunlight, it can fade HORRIBLY.

    Take a look...

The rug was once blue, and put outside wet and turned beige from direct sunlight.

These rugs also are VERY susceptible to losing dye from spot and stain removers. Using a product like Coffee-Mate on this particular Chinese style rug would create a beige spot on the blue rug - and it would be MUCH worse of a spot that the one you were trying to remove.

And... then it becomes YOUR spot instead of theirs. So be careful.

Yeah I have ran into this problem recently as about 2 feet of their area rug was by the front door and they always have their front door open and sun shines in every morning.

I dry my rugs upside down to prevent color loss. Also I have networked with a local Armenian gentleman who can repair and re-color any area rug. I recommend everyone find someone similar. Your upscale customers will love you for it!

Had the same problem with a small round Chinese, luckily it faded evenly and customer was happy with the result. Who would believe you can fade a rug in England just with sunshine.

I dried a nylon rug on my carport one time, only about 2 1/2 feet of the rug was in the sun, and the rest was in the shade. I Won't be that careless again.

This is another reason we dry them upside down. The sun can do a lot of damage to a wet rug especially.
